Things To Know
The 6 extra miles of the long course are some of the best single track at Whiskeytown, with only about 500 additional feet of climbing. For that reason the long course is highly recommended over the intermediate courses, plan your energy output accordingly and drink plenty of water atleast 48 hours before the race. Recent years have had temperatures in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. The heat can dehydrate you quickly during the long and intermediate course routes. Know the warning signs, if you feel sick, disoriented or confused while riding, these are early symptoms of severe dehydration.
The dirt on the course is mostly decomposed granite, which drains very well on wet days. Highest point on the course is about 3,000 feet, so snow should not be a factor. 2 aid stations located at miles 12 & 18 on the long course and miles 7 & 13 on the intermediate course. Aid stations will hand off cups of water, fruit, and probably Gu. Alcoholic beverages ARE permitted in the marina parking lot area. Allow at least 30 minutes drive time from downtown Redding to the Brandy Cr. Marina. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area offers excellent mountain biking.
